Wildfires From the Foothills To Wine Country - Firefighters are gaining control over the fire that blazed along the border of El Dorado and Amador Counties, threatening the area's many vineyards. In today's News Network, we'll get an update on the Sand Fire from YubaNet.com editor Pascale Fusshoeller.
We'll also hear about other fires happening in the area and why she's calling it "high fire season in the High Sierra."
Firefighters are gaining control over the fire that blazed along the border of El Dorado and Amador Counties, threatening the area's many vineyards. The Sand Fire was 65 percent contained Monday afternoon and many wineries that had closed for the weekend had reopened. But the area's winemakers aren't rejoicing just yet. Many worry that the smell of smoke or smoke taint, as it's known- may have permeated the soon-to-be harvested grapes. Joining us to talk more about the Sand Fire and its impact on Amador and El Dorado's wineries is Rob Campbell, owner of Story Winery; Terrie Prod'hon, owner of Mt. Aukum Winery; and Justin Boeger, winemaker at Boeger Winery.
California State Fair - The deep fryers are cold and the Ferris wheel is in pieces. That can only mean the California State Fair has come and gone. But it's not all bad news. The Executive Director for the California State Fair Rick Pickering says attendance at this year's fair was the biggest ever. Pickering joins us with the latest statistics from this year's fair.
